Small update fixes erratic volume behavior on Ice Cream Sandwich device

After a number of European users complained of an erratic volume issue on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the Ice Cream Sandwich-toting Android device is already reportedly receiving a small OTA update to silence the complaints.

According to a post on the XDA Developers forum, the problem of erratic volume-jumping was determined to occur when users of the device were on the 2G GSM 900 band and near another device on the same band.

"Every Samsung Galaxy Nexus handset seems to be affected by this problem. Majority of users however are not encountering the problem due to not using GSM 900 2G networks," the post reads.

The volume bug was found shortly after the device's launch, but Google and Samsung have been fairly quick in rolling out the OTA fix, which is less than 1 MB in size and appears to only address the volume issue. The update doesn't affect the Android version of the device (4.0.1), although the build goes from build ITL41D to ITL41F.

As always, the update is being rolled out piecemeal. To check for it, head to Settings > About phone > System updates on your Galaxy Nexus. And if it isn't there yet, the folks at Android Central have posted a step-by-step to manually flash the OTA.
