ollywood film maker, Prakash Jha who is known to make films based on social issues, is all set with his next film, ‘Aarakshan' that addresses the reservation system in educational institutions and government jobs. The film is slated for release on 12th August and has Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. The film also features the likes of Manoj Bajpai, Prateik Babbar as Sushant, Shabana Azmi, Tanvi Azmi, Hema Malini, Chetan Pandit, Mukesh Tiwari, Yashpal Sharma, Darshan Jariwala, Saurabh Shukla, Vinay Apte, Anita Kanwar, S.M. Zaheer and Aanchal Munjal. A major part of the film has been shot in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, an Indian province. Bollywood composers, Shankar- Ehsaan-Loy have composed the music for the film. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi has written the lyrics for the songs and also composed the music of the title track of the film, Kaun si Dor which has been sung by Pandit Chunnulal Misra.

Aarakshan is the story of Dr. Prabhakar Anand, a utopian college principal and a non-believer of casteism. But turn of events lead to him being labeled as a casteist by all including his favourite student Deepak Kumar played by Saif Ali Khan. Deepak is also in love with Dr. Anand's daughter, Poorbie, essayed by Deepika Padukone. Misunderstandings come in between the young lovers when Poorbie finds out that Deepak, who is a dalit is also pointing fingers at her father. About his character, Amitabh Bachchan said, his character does not believe in casteism but also feels that reservations are meant to be opportunities to weaker sections to move forward. The film also broaches the subject of how opportunities for education are becoming increasingly commercialized.

Saif Ali Khan who plays a major role in the film says that the movie Aarakshan has changed his perspective towards reservation policies. He says he was strongly against reservation but after playing a Dalit in the movie and knowing the
